Celebrating 30 Years

It was in January 1992 over an evening drink at Kakungulu Club, when Rtn. Birth of Rotary Club of Ntinda

In March 1992, the Provisional Rotary Club of Ntinda was started by Rtn, Robert Rutaagi and Rtn. Jotham Musinguzi.

On 23rd October 1992, a formal application to be admitted to Rotary International was submitted to Rotary International.  On 14th January 1993, Rotary Club of Ntinda was admitted to the Rotary International fraternity.  On 6th March 1993, the Rotary Club of Ntinda held its Charter Celebration at a very colourful ceremony presided over by the then Rt. Hon. Prime of Uganda, Mr. Cosmas Adyebo (RIP) at Athina Club, Kololo.  Two months later, the Rotary Club of Ntinda was recognized at the May 1993, 68th District Conference and Assembly, held at White Sands Beach Hotel Mombasa. At the Conference the Club was represented by Rotarians Chris Were and Dan Mpungu, young Rotarians at the time.  Since then, the Rotary Club of Ntinda meets every Friday for Fellowship from 7:00pm to 8:00pm.

‘The Bridge’ – Logo for the Rotary Club of Ntinda and Name of the Bulletin

The name Ntinda comes from the Luganda word (Olutindo), which means bridge. The Bridge in the Club logo symbolizes a bridge across culture, social status, gender and friendship.

“Why the Bridge?”

Ntinda is a village on the outskirts of Kampala, the Capital City of Uganda. It lends its name to one of the parishes in the city and to the township therein.  Translated into English, Ntinda means bridge or to bridge.  And so the prominent feature in the Rotary Club of Ntinda banner is a Bridge.  The Rotarians of Ntinda view their club as a bridge between the Rotary Movement and the community they live in; and between the city community and the neighboring rural community.  “Could any better name than the Bridge have been chosen for the Club Bulletin? ‘Extract from the first Bulletin, January to May 1994’.
